Remembering Dr Kazuo Inamori, founder of the Kyoto Prize

We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Kazuo Inamori, founder of the Inamori Foundation and of the Kyoto Prize.

Dr Inamori was an inspiration to our students and to the whole community at the Blavatnik School of Government, and we were honoured to host him in 2017 for the first Kyoto Prize at Oxford, when he delivered a lecture on the importance of fostering a society based on altruism.

On that occasion, the Blavatnik School’s central forum space was officially named ‘the Inamori Forum’ in recognition of both Dr Inamori’s generosity and the shared purpose between the School and the Inamori Foundation: inspiring, educating and connecting individuals who strive for the greater good of humankind and society.

Dr Inamori passed away at the age of 90 in his home in Kyoto, Japan, on 24 August 2022.
